Janell Joyner is a researcher in the Hybrid Systems Integration and Simulation (HSIS) Lab and the Systems Risk and Reliability Analysis (SyRRA) Lab at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. Ms. Joyner is pursuing a Ph.D. in Reliability Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Joyner’s research focuses on the creation of a method that enables designers to cognitively decompose how to use their product and the best practices for the design of a self-assessment survey for non-observable tasks (e.g. recalling information). Her research aims to advance the fields of risk analysis and regulatory science by providing a standardized way to collect accurate information about human performance. The increased accuracy will ensure regulatory benchmarks are met, improving device design.
