Ruochen Yang

Ruochen Yang, Postdoctoral Research Associate

Ruochen Yang is a postdoctoral research associate in the Systems Risk and Reliability Analysis (SyRRA) Lab at the University of Maryland. His current research focuses on the risk, reliability, and maintenance issues of complex engineering systems, including hydrogen pipelines and fueling stations, autonomous marine systems, and chemical process systems. He develops methods and models for analyzing and controlling the safety of those systems.

Before joining SyRRA Lab in 2023, he worked on projects in risk and reliability and applied his knowledge in different industries, including the marine and chemical industries. Contributions mainly include  1) Analysis and control of the safety in operations of autonomous marine systems through online risk models and supervisory risk control systems, and 2) Risk assessment of fire accidents in the chemical and hydrocarbon processing industry through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) fire simulation and probabilistic modeling.

He holds a Ph.D. (2023) in Marine Technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, an M.Eng. (2019) in Oil and Gas Engineering from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, and a B.Eng. (2017) in Safety Engineering from the China University of Petroleum (East China).
