Vincent “Vinnie” Paglioni, Graduate Student

Vinnie is a first-year doctoral student in the SyRRA Lab. His current research focuses on defining and quantifying the factors that shape human performance during nuclear power plant operations. He is also examining the dependencies that exist between different performance-shaping factors and human failure events. Human performance is affected by many factors, including the environment, training adequacy and information availability; knowing how to quantify the effects of such factors on human performance will help nuclear power companies combat human failures and produce more reliable operators, and therefore more reliable (i.e. safer) nuclear power plants.

Vinnie received his B.S. in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2017. Prior to starting at the University of Maryland, he worked as a Nuclear Engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME, where he developed maintenance instructions for components onboard nuclear submarines and instructed new engineers on the basics of nuclear and electrical engineering.
